Rega Planar 6 revealed
Rega Research’s prolific development of new turntables continues with the long-awaited revelation of the new Planar 6. Two years in development, it is certainly worth the wait.
Planar 6 replaces the much-loved RP6; entirely re-engineered utilising some of the core technologies from Rega’s flagship RP8 and RP10 turntables.
The deck itself has a host of upgrades from its predecessor:
Shipping the Atom!
In a breakthrough arguably as monumental to some as that of Ernest Rutherford’s to science, Naim Audio have at last conquered all barriers and shipped the Uniti Atom.
On our decks this month
It’s been a busy month of gigs for Adventures in Hi-fi. Again.
Live music often influences what we listen to in the shop and this month some of our live highlights have been Radiohead at Old Trafford and James at Castlefield Bowl so The Bends and Laid have been glued to our turntable.
Plus, we just can’t get enough of The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper remaster and we’re still battering Whitney – Light Upon the Lake from last year, with a bit of The Charlatans – Different Days thrown in too.
It’s going to take something special to pry these from our turntable!
Here’s a little something we made earlier
One of our favourite things to do at Adventures is build turntables. It’s not quite as much fun as listening to them, but it’s mighty close. And this Michell Orbe was certainly a challenge.
So we thought we would share a couple of pics of our latest creation (credit mainly of course to Phil). Painstakingly re-built from scratch, our customer provided the parts; we provided the genius.
NEW ProAc Response DT8: matching material to music
ProAc loudspeakers are well known for meticulous attention to detail in selecting diaphragm materials for their drive units; cone movement is of course what creates sound so arguably the most important feature of any speaker. The new Response DT8 goes one step further, matching cone material to frequency for each drive unit.
Nothing compares to Hugo 2
We’ve long been fans of Chord Electronics and the exceptional Hugo in particular. We didn’t think it needed improvement but guess we’ve just been proven wrong!
MOON Neo Ace now only £2700
MOON don’t really do summer promos, but they’ve given us a nice little summer treat instead. From 1st July, their excellent one-box streamer, the Neo Ace, (A Complete Experience) has dropped to £2700; that’s down £600!
PMC twenty5 series – 5* all over
We don’t always pay attention to reviews, as our friends and customers know, but we have to agree with the conclusions of some outstanding recent appraisals of PMC’s twenty5 series.
New Tellurium Q Black II speaker cable
We’ve been advocating the benefits of Tellurium Q Black speaker cable for several years at Adventures so are naturally excited at the launch of Black II, the upgraded version of this versatile cable.
AVM CS2.2 “the one-box wonder”
AVM’s new Inspiration CS2.2 is a streaming CD receiver and stereo amplifier (2 x 165W) with phono stage, DAC, FM tuner and internet radio – all in one compact, rather stylish box. And with performance to match it’s German engineering pedigree, it’s not surprising it’s receiving “one-box wonder” accolades.
