New Rega MM Cartridge – Nd3

Rega Research has announced the first of an innovative new range of handmade moving magnet cartridges, Rega Nd3, the long-anticipated replacement for Elys 2.

Nd3 is the first in Rega’s new Nd range (patent pending), developed over 10 years using technology centred around the rare earth element Neodymium, hence the Nd. It is a totally unique design using ultra-high powered Neodymium magnets promising to deliver ‘next level’ performance from moving magnet technology.

Nd3 features a Neodymium N55 magnet: the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet which makes this unique design possible. Each Nd3 is meticulously handmade by Rega technicians, using a brand-new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance. The Nd3 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics. This new cartridge is created with miniaturised parallel coils which are wound in-house, utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns, producing a low inductance, low impedance generator giving vastly improved high frequency response.

Nd3 retails at £175 and is available to order as a standalone cartridge now, or as a factory-fitted option on Planar 2 and Planar 3 turntables, estimated shipping for complete turntables is June.
