Dali Oberon range

New to Adventures: Dali Oberon

22 October 2020

A criticism often levelled at Adventures is our lack of entry level loudspeakers. We’re sorry about that; trouble is, we haven’t found a really good one, until now. At £350 and £700 respectively, Dali Oberon 1 & 5 have blown us away!

Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries, grew out of Scandinavia’s leading audio retail chain in 1983, based on the observation that customers often requested a combination of size, shape, performance and price that existing brands could not offer. So Dali set out to create a range of loudspeakers with outstanding performance and natural sound at competitive prices.

Fast forward to 2020 and more than 35 years of experience and global recognition, with over a million Dali owners in more than 70 countries, the company offers a wide range of speakers to suit every taste from the cost-conscious SPEKTOR series to the performance speaker the EPICON 8.

It is Oberon that we have fallen for: the first entry-level loudspeaker to incorporate Dali’s patented SMC technology, drastically reducing non-linear magnetic distortion. First up for us, Oberon 1 bookshelves and Oberon 5 floorstanders.

The Oberon 1 is an ultra compact bookshelf speaker. The cabinet size enables an optimal balance between inner volume for bass performance and a compact appearance for easy integration – suited for smaller rooms, discreet audio setups or wall mounting. It features the same oversized 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter as its floor-standing siblings, and a SMC based 5.25″ wood fibre woofer to handle lower midrange and bass.

The Oberon 5 is the ultimate performer – combining Dali ideas, traditions and inventions. It’s a compact and elegant floor-standing speaker, housing 2 x 5¼” wood fibre based woofers with SMC and the series’ wide bandwidth 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter. This slim floor-stander will surprise with its ability to deliver a deep firm bass together with a clear and well defined mid-range and airy high frequencies.

As always, the proof is in the listening, so call us or email to book a dem. You won’t be disappointed.

EASY INTEGRATION
Dali makes it easy to integrate your loudspeakers into any room. Both the driver materials and geometry applied in the Oberon series have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover. Thus, you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. This is important as you are rarely seated directly in front of your loudspeaker when listening to music. An added benefit is seriously reduced harmonic distortion and frequency distortion, as these will always be stronger in an on-axis response. This is also the reason why all Dali speakers are not designed to be toed-in.

A COLOUR FOR EVERY INTERIOR
The Oberon series is available in four finishes: Black Ash, White, Dark Walnut and Light Oak, matched with a matte black or white front baffle. The rear mounted bass port ensures optimum integration within the room, and the elegantly shaped aluminium base gives the two floor-standing models a lighter look. The Oberon series also introduces a brand new front grille design with rounded edges that add a lighter and contemporary visual look to the speaker series. ‘Mountain Grey’ is the standard grille supplied with the light finishes while Shadow Black is standard on the dark finishes. Marshmallow White is available as an accessory.
