Spendor DS1 – no ordinary on-wall speaker

During a recent visit to Spendor Audio, Rob took the opportunity to audition Spendor’s DS1 compact, 2-way, on-wall loudspeakers… and was smitten.
DS1 is no ordinary on-wall speaker, it delivers music with exceptional resolution that belies it’s size and volume. It produces low frequencies with power, scale and authority – from a cabinet depth of just 135mm. They key to DS1 is placement against a solid surface; some very clever design from Spendor ensures this results in extraordinary performance from the relatively small cabinet.
A stereo pair comparative dem against Spendor D7.2 floorstanders was too close to call. Sure, a little less bass from DS1, but overall performance was pretty equal. These on-walls get so many things right, they will give any good quality bookshelf a run for their money.
Perfect for environments where space and/or positioning is limited, DS1 is easy to place in real-world listening rooms, quick and easy to mount, very capable and compatible with all good amplifiers. A pair either side of a TV for example works really well. It’s an ideal solution where traditional bookshelf or floorstanding speakers can’t be accommodated but where audio quality can’t be compromised. Or for those who just prefer speakers to take up less space, out of danger from small children, pets, hoovers or any other ‘hazard’!
With a short, slim enclosure and smart, modern finishes, the Spendor DS1 is entirely at home in any listening environment. DS1 is available in Black Oak, Satin White, Oak, Cherry and Walnut and is supplied with a black or white grill.
